Website Note: this version of my website just launched on September 13, 2013, and I'm still working out the kinks. Some browsers and mobile devices may render some elements incorrectly. This site is scaled down from my original vision, but I'd rather be painting than working on my website. :) More recent and archived works will be added soon.
I am a self-taught artist originally from Jamestown, New York. Before moving to Lynchburg, Virginia in 2001, I've also lived in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and Chicago, Illinois. There is no painting experience more exhilarating (or sometimes frustrating) than painting outdoors, which I do as often as I can with a day job and two young kids. I've been fortunate to take workshops from artists I greatly admire: Ken DeWaard, Ron Boehmer, and Rosalie Day White, and studied for a time with Paul Dinwiddie.
My wife Laurel and I have two sons, Lukas and Erik. I plan to have a contact form up soon. In the meantime, you can reach me at facebook.com/mark.d.johnson.art.
