I am a self-taught artist originally from Jamestown, New York. Before moving to Lynchburg, Virginia in 2001, I've also lived in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and Chicago, Illinois. There is no painting experience more exhilarating (or sometimes frustrating) than painting outdoors, which I do as often as I can with a day job and two young kids. I've been fortunate to take workshops from artists I greatly admire: Ken DeWaard, Ron Boehmer, and Rosalie Day White, and studied for a time with Paul Dinwiddie. In March 2014, I won Best in Show at the 82nd Annual Georgia Morgan Civic Art Show, judged by Ron Boehmer.
My wife Laurel and I have two sons, Lukas and Erik. I plan to have a contact form up soon. In the meantime, you can reach me at facebook.com/mark.d.johnson.art.
